Congratulate Russian Brides on Russia Day

12. June 2013 by Michelle 0 Comments

How are your favorite Russian brides celebrating Russia Day today? Are they marching in Moscow for protests or are they enjoying music and fireworks at the many festivities?

June 12 is a national holiday in Russia commemorating the Declaration of State Sovereignty in 1990. While some are using the occasion to oppose the government, others are celebrating their country with concerts, parades and time with family and friends.

A five-hour pop concert is taking place in Red Square, while a jazz festival is going on in Tsaritsyno Park. A "Parade of Districts" began at Pushkin Square, representing 12 Moscow districts and 12 centuries of Russian history. There’s also a "Unity of Culture – Unity of Nation" celebration going on at Kuzminki Park.

Leaders of other countries have reached out to Russian President Vladimir Putin today, such as Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who said:

"On behalf of the Ukrainian people and on my own behalf, I congratulate you and the Russian people on the national holiday – Russia Day. The Russian Federation has traditionally been a key strategic partner for Ukraine. Over the last few years we have managed to achieve practical results in many areas of cooperation."

Also, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan called President Putin on the phone congratulating him and the Russian people and wishing them robust health, success, peace, and prosperity.

Other places around the globe are celebrating Russia Day as well.

In Chicago, one of the sister cities to Moscow, the Third Annual Russia Day Gala at the Drake Hotel’s Gold Coast Ballroom will honor the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States, Sergey I. Kislak. This celebration is unique in that it is the only Russian National Day celebration organized by a non-governmental body in the United States.

Many of your Russian girlfriends may be online today since they have the day off from work. Log on to and congratulate them!
