Long distance relationships are really hard on everybody involved. You spend a lot of time missing your partner and often feeling quite lonely. However, there are a lot of things you can do to stay upbeat and hopeful while you wait for the time that the two of you can be together.
Get involved in some sort of local social group.
Take up a casual sport. Volunteer for a cause or charity you are passionate about, such as an animal rescue organization. Hit a regular karaoke night and get to know the people who go. It doesn’t matter what you do; what matters is developing relationships with like-minded people. Having a regular activity doesn’t just keep you busy; it allows you connection and companionship that can be lacking while you are waiting for your Russian love to be able to come here and be with you full-time.
Take on a long-term project.
Think of one thing you have always wanted to learn or do. For instance, if you have always wanted to run a long distance race, take on a training program. You can also learn a language (Russian, perhaps!) or learn how to play an instrument. Having a measurable, long-term goal can make the time go by more quickly, and make you feel that you are using that time instead of just waiting for the long distance part of your relationship to be over.
Nurture Your Relationship
Long-distance couples often have to go the extra mile to make one another feel warm, cared for and happy while you are apart. Schedule regular long-distance dates. Remember important dates and mile stones and send her small gifts or messages to celebrate. Talk on the phone or internet chat often.
Most of all, keep patient and upbeat. It may seem like forever, but, the time will pass, and before you know it, she will be here and you will be working on your future together.
