Russian Women Find Their Way to Iceland

17. November 2009 by Daniel 0 Comments

Whether you live in Europe, America or anywhere else in the world, chances are there is a lady on RussianLoveMatch.com who wants to know more about you and your country. With the cold climate and relatively small population of a place like Iceland, it might seem unusual for a Russian woman to wed an Icelandic gentleman. But even in Iceland, it happens.

Iceland and Russia are not all that different, especially when it comes to climate. For many of the beautiful Russian women featured on RussianLoveMatch.com, marrying an Icelandic gentleman would be not unlike marrying a gentleman from her own country, save for the better manners, the new language and various cultural differences.

Iceland-Russia Relations

While Russia and Iceland have maintained relations for many years, the dissolution of the Soviet Union saw the two countries move much closer together in areas of trade and foreign relations. Along with this came a slight upturn in immigration from Russia to Iceland, to the point that the Icelandic capital city of Reykjavik includes a small community of Russian-speaking people. Russian Orthodox priests have also been known to frequent Iceland to facilitate services during religious festivities.

Information on traveling to Iceland from Russia, including obtaining a visa for your Russian bride, can be found through the Icelandic embassy in Moscow. Visit the embassy’s Web site here

Getting Married in Iceland

When the time comes that you find the Russian lady you would like to marry, there are several requirements that husband and wife must meet. These include:

  • Both parties must be 18 years-old.
  • Both parties must present a birth certificate, a valid passport, and a certificate of marital status.
  • If you have been married previously, you must present a divorce decree. Similarly, if your previous spouse died, you must present official documents regarding her estate, assets and liabilities.
  • You must fill out an official marriage application form from the Office of the District Magistrate of Reykjavik. Two witnesses – one for each spouse – must also sign the document.  Witnesses must be more than 18 years-old.

You will be required to have the above documents delivered to the district magistrate of Reykjavik no later than two working days before the wedding takes place. More information on getting married in Iceland can be found here.
