Perhaps hoping to capitalize on the formula that made MTV's Jersey Shore so succesful, Lifetime networks will soon offer a new reality show that follows the lives of several Russian-Americans.
The network has ordered 12 episodes of the new show that many are calling “the Russian Jersey Shore.” However, unlike Jersey Shore, MTV’s phenomenally successful program featuring a cast of young Italian-Americans, the cast of Brighton Beach will be multigenerational. The show will follow the lives of several Russian-American families in Brighton Beach, a community in Brooklyn, New York also known as “Little Odessa.”
Creators of the show, Elina Miller, Alina Dizik, and Christine Mahin, who began approaching networks early this year, said “there will be plenty of vodka, techno music, and guys wearing Adidas pants, leather jackets and gold chains, and driving souped-up cars." They have also said "there will be a lot of hot, decked-out Russian girls." Sounds good, right?
Brighton Beach will air sometime next year. According to the show’s Facebook page, casting is almost complete and the crew expects to start shooting soon. No word if any "mail order brides" will be joining the cast.
