Pierced and Tattooed Russian Ladies [pics inside!]

Archaeologists recently made an intriguing discovery: a 2,500 year old Siberian princess, whose tattooed body was well-preserved by the snow. The woman, who they are calling Princess Ukok, had three detailed tattoos: a deer with a griffin’s beak on her shoulder, another deer with large, decorative antlers around her wrist and intricate marks on her fingers. In this ancient culture, the Pazyryk tribe of what is now Siberia, tattoos were a sign of age and status. The older someone was, the more tattoos they usually had. Early in the 20th century, a man was discovered who was tattooed from shoulder to toe. It’s believed that Princess Ukok was a revered holy woman, a member of royalty or a story teller or a healer of some sort. Two warriors with similar tattoos were found near the princess.

People’s taste for tattoos, piercings and other adornments haven’t changed in the intervening years. While tattoos enter and leave the mainstream, there is always a sub-culture interested in this form of decoration. Tattoos were unpopular in the USSR for many years, as they were associated with criminal activity. However, they have made a comeback in recent years, and both men and women choose to adorn themselves with body art.

Several of the ladies on Russian Love Match have tattoos and piercings. Most ladies’ body art is dainty and petite; other ladies opted for larger statement pieces. Like a lady with ink? Check out some of the tattooed and pieced beauties below:
