English lessons make a great holiday gift

Wondering what to get your special Russian lady  this holiday season?

Roses, jewelry and perfume are nice, but English lessons for a novice speaker are the ultimate way to say, "I love you."

You'll communicate better through email, chat and, perhaps later, by phone. But if you decide to marry a particular Russian or Ukrainian bride, a reliable grasp of English is a must!

Think about all the times you will be at work and unable to deal with service people, or the times she will want to watch the news but not know what happened, or if she just wants to get out of the house and get around.

This scenario is particularly frustrating to a lady who might be well-educated and very eloquent in her native language. She will feel helpless, frustrated and discouraged -- not the best way to start off a new marriage!

English lessons are a great way to show your lady you care. They are available on's online gift shop, through the lady's local agency. The cost is $450 and is a great investment in a special lady!

Once your bride moves to your home country, there's plenty of Russian news on the Internet, but it's also important for her to branch out into her new community. So also consider:

  • More intensive language lessons or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses available at local universities, colleges and libraries.
  • Some colleges also have Russian Studies departments whose staff can be helpful to a newcomer.
  • If your area does not have a big Russian-speaking population, connect her with cultural centers.
  • Religion organizations, such as Orthodox churches and synagogues, often have Russian-speaking members who are happy to reach out.

Consider a gift that keeps on giving, and giving back to you. Give the gift of English lessons on!
